Transparency International CPI ranks New Zealand the 2nd least corrupt country in the world, with Denmark ranking first. New Zealand, a former British colony, is a member of the Commonwealth (The Queen, Elizabeth II is the head of state) and uses the Common law legal system. 

As a non-member of the European Union, New Zealand is not exposed to EU directives.
